Might be getting another job sooner than I thought
Written by flashkid105

So yeah, I filled out an online application for The Camera Company a while ago, hoping that I would get a job there. I mean, I love photography, and (if you haven't noticed already), I'm a techno geek which means I'm able to learn how to use just about any kind of technology (Sometimes, it takes longer for some things, but still)

Anyways, I got an e-mail from the owner of the west-side location just now, saying that there's an opening for a part-time Sales position (2 or 3 evenings, and 1 or 2 weekend days)

I can't help feeling so excited about the job, to be honest
Un-banned from dA, as of today

Yep,

As I write this, I'm un-banned from deviantART.  I realize now that I'd made a serious judgement error back then, which led to my ban, and yet, I've got one more chance.  So, I don't want to waste that.  I'll still be around these parts, so don't worry

So, let me ask you guys something:

Have you ever been stopped someplace, and told you could not shoot any photos?  Were you devastated when you heard this, and didn't know what to do?

Honestly, I feel I can say yes to both questions, because I HAVE been stopped once before (at the Overture Center for The Arts), and afterwards, I didn't know what else to do.

However, after doing a bit of research, I found out that if you have permission to enter someplace (like the mall, etc) then you can assume that you have permission to shoot

According to [link] , it's a permission that can be revoked, but no one can ask you to hand over your film, or digital media unless they have a court order

[link] is another good read regarding what your rights as a photographer are

This is it....My very first thumb feature on Storm-Artists (and believe me, I think you'll enjoy the eye-candy I have picked)

I really like how the little drop of water catches the viewer's attention right away (Definitely adds some zest)

by gmmphotography

Yet another stunning piece, IMO.  Aside from the fact that it's not really a photomanipulation, I love how there's mist present, and how the yellow/orange colors gradually fade to dark blue/black

Very beautiful composition here.  I really like how you can see the fog on the ground, and the tree silhouette

Now ain't that a nice space scene?   Reminds me of one that I did a loooong time ago, only it was just stars, no planets.

Stiffness In Right Shoulder

And I know where I got it from.

My uncle was staying in Madison for a couple of days (from Ohio), and so my dad and I went to visit them at his sister's house.  Turns out that my little cousin, Christopher had his Nintendo Wii there, so he asked me if I could play with him, which I did (for almost 3 hours straight).

At one point, during the Mario & Sonic Olympics game, I was using both of my arms so much that they got tired after a while, so I made a point of taking a break once or twice.

I still ended up with a sore-as-hell right arm after I got home, so I tried to rest it as much as I could. This morning, when I woke up, I noticed that there wasn't as much sore-ness as there was stifness in my right shoulder (Guess I should limit myself to 1 hr on the Wii remote, when I get my own Wii).

I don't really want to bore you guys too much, so I'll keep it short:

I finally got somewhere regarding finding out why I was banned from dA, although I do have to take issue with some things that were said in the reply e-mail that I got.

First off, how can this one Staff member know everything about my past history since I joined up in November of 2004?  Secondly, the e-mail that I sent, as a last resort was not abusive at all (I tried to be as nice as possible, but eh, I guess that if people are going to be abusive in the first place, they shouldn't expect me to me nice about it).

Anyhow, enough of that......My ban is due to be reviewed at least a month from now, but I'm not getting my hopes up too high just yet.  I'll update you guys when I hear anything more

If you see my gallery get a lot of submissions in the near future, don't fret.

I'm just going through my deviantART gallery, submitting some old stuff I did before I got banned ([link])

No,

So STOP fucking hassling me over it, k?  You need to realize that I have a say in what I do/where I go to spend Thanksgiving.  I don't care if Barb's family is coming down for Thanksgiving.  I mean, why wouldn't we be invited over to my cousin's house?

In case anyone didn't realize it yet, that part was directed towards my dad.  I dunno.....I guess I'm a little apprehensive about this Thanksgiving.  Don't get me wrong,  I love the food/the good times that are usually had then, but to me, it feels like my dad doesn't really trust my cousin's at all (For whatever reason, I dunno, but it just seems stupid to me).

I already told him before this morning that I didn't see any reason why Sarah and I shouldn't spend Thanksgiving over at my cousin's house if we're invited

As most of you reading this may have already guessed by the title, I'm goin' outta town to Colorado (for my sister's wedding).

I'll be leaving Madison on Sunday, and won't be back until sometime on Thursday. I think it should be a lot of fun, though.

Stuff I KNOW I have to take along with me

1. My iPod Nano (which is why I'm getting as much music on it as I can)

2. My trusty little Canon PowerShot (for pics I can put up when I get back)

I just....don't know what to say about deviantART right now, except that it's very likely I will be de-activating my entire gallery there (after I move some pieces I really want to save), and won't be submitting anything there indefinitely.

[link] (I just came across that earlier today)

In a nutshell, according to that PDF file, deviantART can sell your work to others without compensation to you, license YOUR work to a third-party, and the agreement you enter into with dA can only be terminated upo removal of everything that CAN be removed.

Also. if deviantART uses your work as a part of something, you have no rights to it anymore.

Perhaps the BIGGEST bombshell outlined in there is that any visitor to dA can take your artwork, and call it their own, sell it on eBay. etc WITHOUT PERMISSION

I honestly thought that deviantART was a good site to be at (which it was, for a while).  Now, deviantART is nothing more than a pile of crap needing to be removed.

In any case, I'll be moving some stuff I really care about over here, and then I will de-activate my entire deviantART gallery when the time comes to do so.  I simply don't trust dA anymore.

As well, I will not be renewing my subscription there when it expires, although I'll stil hang out there, since I've got a lot of friends

Updates
Written by flashkid105

Mood: calm

Haven't posted anything new here in a while, so I thought I should write up a bit of an update on what's going on in my neck of the woods.

First off, I got cable TV/Internet from Charter installed today, so that pretty much means that the internet connection is much faster, and I now have more of a reason to watch TV (I stopped watching TV for a while before because I felt that there really wasn't much of anything worth watching on TV)

I'm still doing photography as a hobby these days, although, while I was at the Overture Center for the Arts recently, I was told that I couldn't shoot any photos inside that building unless I paid a fee (which doesn't make any sense, because I'm not making any money off of what I do at all).  I'm pretty much planning to go back downtown to the Overture Center real soon, and find out what the hell is going on, because in all honesty, it sure sounds like those people want to take advantage of me (which I will NOT tolerate).
At least I know better than to leave my camera lying around again
Written by flashkid105

Mood: contented

For the most part, my dad and I have been really good about not leaving stuff lying around for my dog to chew on, for the most part.

I've learned not to leave my PowerShot camera lying around at all, because one time, I did just that, and when I came home from work, I found that Hunter had chewed on it to the point where the LCD monitor was screwed up, and the lens shutter wouldn't open anymore.

So, I took it in to this very good camera repair place here in downtown Madison, to get it repaired and now, it works like it's brand-new (I had to use most all of the money that I got from my paycheck, though)

Speaking of paychecks, I got paid again recently (the paycheck was for $602 Dollars).  I work part-time at a job-placement agency, so I essentially get paid less than that, usually, but the reason for having gotten paid so much is this:  I was supposed to have gotten paychecks ever since I started working there, but I didn't get any, until several weeks ago.  So the $602 is compensation for thst (I gotta cash the paycheck sometime this week, and deposit half of it in my savings)

What I'll do with half of the money, I have no idea *laughs*.  I may very well get myself an iPod, or maybe save some money to get Photoshop CS3 when it's released to the public this Spring ( I wrote a news article about this, which can be found at [link])
First-ever theme is released

Mood: happy

After much tweaking, testing etc, I have released my very first theme (Formerly named "Pitch Black", but I later changed that name to "100 Block", because of the background image)

As of this writing, the only outstanding issue with this theme pertains to the transparent logo image (Transparency is NOT supported by Internet Explorer, so if you wish to use this theme, you'd be better off using Mozilla Firefox (although, I may devise a work-around for this issue in the future)

Anyways, enjoy the theme.  If anyone has any suggestions as to what they think can be better, please don't hesitate to PM me (I'm willing to listen)

Where should I start?

Well, to start off, I've got 2 multi-display wallpaper packs up for grabs over at my deviantART account here - I'm kinda happy since this is the first time I've done anything as far as multi-display wallpaper rendering goes.

I guess one thing that really gets me about dA these days is that they've got the definition of multi-display wallpaper all wrong.  This is what's described as the requirements for wallpapers

- Normal PC / Mac

    * 640x480 | 800x600
    * 1024x768 | 1152x864
    * 1280x960 | 1280x1024
    * 1400x1050 | 1600x1200
    * 2048x1536

- Dual Display / Widescreen

    * 1280x480 | 1280x800
    * 1440x900 | 1600x600
    * 1680x1050 | 1920x1200
    * 2048x768 | 2304x864
    * 2560x960 | 2560x1024
    * 3200x1200 | 4096x1536

That's mis-leading to anyone who reads it.  The sizes on the right-hand side are multi-display, NOT wide-screen.

#help is another thing that's been getting at me as of late.  Why, you ask?

Let me break it down:

From time to time, there's absolutely NO #helpers around in #help, so that leaves those who need help right then at a dis-advantage.  To make matters worse, NOTHING has been done about it, and I seem to remember someone suggesting a while ago that there be Moderators in #help for when no #helpers were around.  Was that idea taken into consideration?  No.  It was shot down because one of the dA Staff members thought the person who'd suggested it was hinting at being an admin *rolls eyes*.  Almost like they're happy with the way they're doing things now, and don't want to change things for the better.

As I understand it, the #helper selection process was different from what it is now - Anyone who was interested in becoming a #helper at the time just needed to apply for the position.  That didn't help with the low #helper numbers, and I don't think the current #helper selection system does either.

#helpers are NOW selected from the Members category in #devart, so basically, it's like this:  If you want to become a #helper, you need to be a #devart Member, and to be that, you have to be fairly active.  Talk about leaving those people out who love helping others when/where they can, eh? *rolls eyes*

deviantART veteran reporting for duty

So yeah,:)

I basically came here out of curiosity, as I saw something in the deviantART forums about supporting SI (Subversive-imaginati).  I do have to say that this place seems very cool, and friendly from what I have seen so far, though I'll have to keep looking around:).

A little bit about me

My username has a long story to it, basically.  It all started after I had taken a class at Madison Area Technical College called Beginning Flash, and at the end of the class, I felt like I was still a kid regarding Flash knowledge.  So, I took it upon myself to do some personal projects in Flash.  When I came upon a site called Flash Kit ([link]), I felt that FlashKid105 was a good name for me so I went with that name.  I found myself using that same name when I signed up for a membership at deviantART.  I am NOT a kid, though, despite my username.
